New Website

As some may have noticed already, OpenJAUS.com has been completely redesigned! The OpenJAUS group is proud to have built what we hope is a better and more user-friendly website for both current OpenJAUS users and developers and future users as well.

Some of the key features of the new site:

  • New code repository powered by Google Code
  • New and more user-friendly discussion forums
  • OpenJAUS.com hosting of lost JAUS  Reference Architecture documents

And of course we've migrated some key features of the old site over like the FAQ and Tutorials.

SAE JAUS Development Effort

One question that seems to come up more and more often relates to the new and upcoming JAUS standard based on JSIDL. For those not familar with that acroynm, it is a service oriented architecture approach which has been adopted by the JAUS committee that is now working as an SAE standards development group. JSIDL and its associated JAUS Service Sets form the foundation for what used to be the JAUS Reference Architecture and define the bits and bytes of the next-generation JAUS architecture.

OpenJAUS is gearing up and beginning the design and implementation phase of the next-generation open source robotics runtime engine based on JSIDL. It will be based on a wealth of knowledge and lessons learned from both the first and second generation of the OpenJAUS product as well as lessons learned from a history of building, testing and deploying usable and real robotic solutions in the field.

The OpenJAUS team welcomes and encourages involvement from the community during design and implementation of this effort. There is a lot of detail about the plans for the future and how we really want to open the development effort up into the public in our new forums! So head on over to the new forum and post, interact and get involved in making the OpenJAUS product best suited to your needs and the needs of your organization!
